Olympic College was in need of more classroom space at their Poulsbo, WA campus. After learning about the Smart Academic Green Environment (SAGE) classrooms, the customer determined that this would be the best solution.
Natural light was a key feature the designers incorporated into the design of the 2,688 sf classroom building, featuring three large classrooms and a conference room. Each classroom has a set of Clerestory windows strategically placed to allow up to four times as much natural light into the building compared to more standard relocatable classrooms. The strategic position of the building allows each classroom to take advantage of the sun’s movement and utilize as much natural sunlight as possible, saving on electricity costs. Automatic dimmers were installed to promote a smooth transition as the sunlight changes. An energy-efficient Energy Recovery Ventilator was installed to ensure fresh air is consistently pumped into each classroom.
